All Wood Golf Sets Checklist

All wood golf sets checklist and guidelines for the picking and testing the right wood lady golf clubs. Here are the rules of thumb, the major guidelines and fitting checks.

Drivers, Fairway Woods, Utility Woods and Hybrids in a Wood Golf Set

Woods for women are often longer and lighter, and have large hollow, high lofted heads of hard material. For example titanium. The sweetspot is larger, because of the hard material of the larger head, and the longer shaft. Thus you can hit the ball further.

You use golf woods at a par 4 or 5 hole to reach a reasonable distance. Hopefully in the right direction ... :-)
You can use woods to reach a distance up to 200 yards from the green. After the 200 yard mark: hit with an iron.

The number of the iron depends on the distance you want to reach at the course. Wood is called a wood because untill the eighties many were still made of real wood. But nowadays they are often made of stainless steel.

Major Guidelines For All Wood Golf Sets

1. The higher the number of the women's wood, the higher the loft.

2. High loft causes a high ball flight.

3. A low numbered wood with - relatively - less loft causes more distance.

4. Lenghts: normally the driver is 15 mm longer then a 3-wood and the 3-wood is somewhat longer then the 5-wood.

Hint 1:
Are you an average lady golfer with a slow swing speed? I advise you to choose for a 3-wood with a high loft of about 15 and 16 degrees. And for a 19 to 22 degrees lofted 5-wood.

Hint 2:
If you are a more experienced lady golfer and you are able to control the club very well, my advise would be a ladies wood golf set with less loft or precison shots.

Fitting Checklist For All Wood Golf Sets

Favourite lady golf clubs - Remember the lenght and the lie of your favourite wood in case you want to purchase another lady club number. The lie may vary for each golf brand. The smaller you are: take clubs with a lower lie. You can increase your distance with a good lie. A good lie ensures that the part with which you can hit the ball well is as large as possible, as a result of which you will have less mishits.

Player profile - Create some kind of personal player profile, because you have to know what you really need. And talk about it with your golf pro and friends.

Loft - Has the loft of the wood the right angle?

Lie - Is the lie the proper one for you?

Shaft - Does the shaft of all woods in the set have the right length? Does the shaft have the right flexibility for you? Lady golfers have to focus on this point. All wood golf sets for women are often made with graphite shafts.

Grip - What's the grip size? Don't take grips that are too thick if you have slender hands. Ask yourself what kind of material it has been made of. E.g. is it rainproof?

Drivers: In All Wood Golf Sets For Women

The club used to hit the ball on the first shot on a par 4 or par 5 hole. The driver is the longest hitting club in all wood golf sets. Women's drivers commonly have a loft of between 12 and 14 degrees.

High loft gives a high ball flight, a lot of distance and a lot of spin for beginners.

Mid and low handicappers with a fast swing speed often choose for a lady golf driver with less loft; you'd best choose primarely for distance and not really for a high ball flight.

Fairway and Utility Woods: Recommended For All Wood Golf Sets

2-Wood, 3-wood, 4-wood, 5-wood and wood-7 are called fairway woods. Check the checklist :-)

Almost all wood golf sets for women have a high lofted 7-wood and a 9-wood. These woods have larger sweetspots - hitting areas - than irons and therefore they are also called utility woods.

Hybrids Or Rescue Woods: Not In All Wood Golf Sets

Hybrids or Rescue Woods have features of irons as well as of woods. Hybrids are meant for lady golfers who do not like to hit with long irons.

Some well-known brands have developed in the past years special hybrids for women. See my reviews section on the left in the navigation bar. The Taylor Made Rescue Mid Woods were the first and trademarked under the name Rescue Woods. But such special clubs are not in all sets. Check them out, because they make playing a lot nicer.
