Golf Club Head Material Checklist

Golf club head material, frequently used material and checklist.

What Golf Club Head Material?

Stainless steel, titanium or composite alloys are the most common club head materials. Rule of thumb is: the harder the material, the more forgiving your club will be.

Titanium is for many of us lady golfers a good choice, because it is hard and the weight is very low. But this material is expensive.

Stainless steel is cheaper than titanium, but somewhat heavier than titanium and titanium-alloys.

An alloy head is made of a combination two or more metals. Of course this list isn't exhaustive. Manufacturers constantly research and develop new materials.

DRIVERS AND WOODS

Aluminium and the titanium-alloys are nicely to start with. But if you aim for the better class of woods, then choose for HST Aluminium, 17-4 stainless steel or 431 stainless steel lady golf drivers and women's woods.

The top are titanium, maraging metal, bi-metal and tungsten inserts.

IRONS AND WEDGES

Do you want to waste your money? Then buy irons and wedges with cheap lady golf club head material :-) Titanium-alloy - aluminium with a often just a little bit titanium - irons are less expensive and okay for starting women. The best lady golf club head materials are 17-4 stainless steel and 431 stainless steel.

PUTTERS

Its often said that putter head materials doesn't matter. That's not quite true. Sure, the head sizes and forms are more important. But find out what kind of insert material has been used in the face of the putter head. Is it soft or is it hard? Your pendule swing can be a little bit more powerful if the head is made of a softer material. That's very useful on fast greens.

Frequently Used Lady Golf Club Head Material From A To Z

Alloy or Matrix - Combinations of different metals. Watch out for too high rates of cheaper materials.

Composite Alloy - Somewhat softer golf club head material - watch out for scatches - and cheaper and a little bot heavier than stainless steel and titanium. And they are less forgiving.

Beryllium Copper - Copper colored alloy. Softer than steel.

Beta Titanium - Titanium alloy. Harder than steel. Bi-Metal - Lady golf club head made of two materials.

Chrome Plated Finish - Shiny finish of iron heads and shafts.

Gunmetal - Dark finish of iron heads.

Maraging Steel - Steel alloy harder than 17-4 stainless steel, often used in the face of the head.

Melonite - Black plating. Resistant to corrosion.

Stainless Steel - Durable hard lady golf club material. Many of us women golfers has clubs of 431 Stainless Steel or 17-4 Stainless Steel.

Super Steel - Alloys of steel that are stronger and lighter than 17-4 stainless.

Ti-Alloy - Often ti-alloy lady golf clubs are made of relativly very little titanium and the main part is made of aluminium. Therefore that kind of clubs are cheaper. So whatch out, it isn't a real titanium club!

Titanium - Expensive, but very hard lightweigthed material for big drivers and woods. Creates a larger sweetspot and therefore the clubs are more forgiving on mishits.

6-4 Titanium - Woods with a very high percentage of titanium. Harder dan 17-4 Stainless steel and 431 Stainless steel.

Forged Titanium - A manufacturing method for woods. The sole and body is forged from 100% pure titanium. The face usually is casted of 6-4 Titanium. Tri-Metal - Lady golf club head made out of of three materials.

Tungsten - Heavy metal inserts placed in lighter golf club head material to distirbuted the weight.
