Golf Club Lie Checklist

Golf club lie, the average standard angle of irons, the average standard angle of woods and a checklist.

What Is Lie?

A good golf club lie angle creates a larger sweetspot - the portion of the club face where you can hit the ball well - and therefore the iron or wood is more forgiving. Ergo: you can make more distance. No, I’m not going to be too technical. Many others can do that much better. And more technical facts aren't exactly necessary in first instance. I'll just show you the information about golf club lie you need to make a good choice in the right direction. And my goal is a simple one: I don't want to overwhelm you with tons of technical facts like some manufacturers and others. You don't really need them to understand what's lie about. My motto is: we play golf for our pleasure, so let's keep it nice and simple!

Lie is the angle in degrees of the lady golf club head in relation to the shaft. The lie of your club can be too up right, just right or too flat. Every lady golf club has a standard lie, but it can differ by brand. A 5-iron for example fluctuate around 60 degrees. As a rule of thumb I can advise you to add continually 1 degree for each higher club number of the same brand.

What Is The Proper Lie For Golf Clubs?

The right club lie depends on your lenght. Are you tall, then choose for clubs with a more upright lie and longer shafts. The smaller you are: choose for lady golf clubs with less lie and a little bit shorter shafts.

Golf Club Lie Angle Tip: Look at the divots you make. Are they deep? Then may be your lie is too upright. Change over to clubs with a little bit lower lie. And the other way around: if your divots aren’t very deep, then there’s a good chance your lady golf club lie is too flat. Have your clubs fixed more up right.

The effect of a wrong lie is simple. If your lady golf club lie is too upright, then the heel will hit te ground. Your ball flies to the left if you are a right hand woman. And to the right if you're left hand player. If your lady golf lie is too flat, then the toe will hit the ground. Your ball goes to the right if you're a right hand player and to the left if you are a leftie. You have the right club lie when the sole touches the ground in the middle.
