Lady Hagen golf clubs review of the T3 lady golf clubs, 430H and 460H, Walter Hagen AWS, WH-22 and WH-11 Hybrid Fairway Woods and Irons and Ultra sets.
I often get questions like these: are these lady golf clubs something for me? Are these quality clubs? And more questions like that often pops up in my mailbox.
My answer is always: yes, there are some durable and relatively cheap and valuable lady golf clubs. Let's see if I can group some famous Hagen irons, woods and drivers, so you can decide yourself whether you should choose for a set of lady Hagen golf clubs. Or not, of course :-)
Walter Hagen - nicknamed Haig - is a legendary PGA-player, born a century ago, 1892. He started making clubs with his own shafts during the mid-twenties. His tournament success records puts him on a honorary third place after Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
For now, some specifics of the different lady golf clubs Hagen has produced. I concentrate on the questions: quality, ability and some tecnical details.
Lady Hagen T3 Golf clubs
The 18 (!) piece lady Hagen golf clubs set contains a square 460 cubic centimeter geometric driver, the stainless fairway 3 wood, and for mid-handicappers the 4, 5, and 6 hybrids. All irons number 7 up to the sand wedge have wide soles for better gliding on the fairway when making approach shots.
Beware that you choose graphite shafts and the proper flex. The putter has the classic alignment; handy for beginners and mid-handicappers. The value for price (about USD 250 in some local golf stores) is okay, to my opinion.
The feel of the Walter Hagen T3 clubs in general is good but not that spectacular.
There is one other lady Hagen golf clubs set I would point out here. The Lady Hagen T3 Square driver, 3 wood, hybrids, EZ Roll chipper and the mallet putter. Choose this set only if your score is under 100 strokes.
Walter Hagen 430H and 460H
Also this set is constructed by the Niklaus Golf company. All clubs have a Aldila NV65 stiff shaft. The most exciting is the sound you hear when you tee off...
Some say that it is like a rocket going off :-)
Anyway, the ultra-thin Beta Ti faced 460cc low and back gravity centered head makes me drive very fast at stroke one - 20 tot 25 yards more than normal. Although the high launch angle of the lady Hagen golf clubs prevented me sometimes from making even more yards...
The Walter Hagen 430H and 460H sets have small sweetspots, so these lady Hagen golf clubs are not very suitable for beginners or starters. Take easier equipment; scan my site for checklists.
Walter Hagen AWS
The Walter Hagen AWS Comp, fairway woods and AWS hybrid fairway woods feels okay for mid-handicappers who are able to beat the 240 up to 270 yard boudary. AWS means adjustable Weight System, utilizing three weight plugs for neutral, draw or fade bias.
The ultra-thin PWF (Plasma Weld Face) makes it somewhat difficult lady golf clubs for beginners and high mid-handicappers, I think.
But when you have practiced accurate enough with these Lady Hagen golf clubs, you could reach a greater distance. Then you've a solid feel and can make forgiving swings.
A special note for the Walter Hagen AWS titanium driver. The specs say it all:
13 degree loft;
460 cc titanium head;
High Moment of Inertia;
Plus a maximum legal so-called coefficient of restitution;
Aldila NV, or Graffaloy Pro Launch or UST Harmon HTD shafts.
Walter Hagen WH-22 and WH-11 Hybrid Fairway Woods and Irons
Some specifications:
Tungsten weight plug positioned low and deep;
Width soles to get esay out of the rough;
The irons number 4 up to the pitching wedge and gap wedge have True Temper TX-90 uniflex shafts.
Walter Hagen SB3 and SB5 Irons
The main feature of the lady Hagen golf clubs irons is the ball spin. Good for beginners and mid-handicappers. I have noticed that I reach a distance of 180 yards with the 5.
The 4-iron is a rare duck to me. I can imagine that Hagen should replace the number 4 with a lob of high lob wedge for approaching the green.
Walter Hagen Ultra
And finally: back in the past - to the sixties and seventies :-) - with Ultra Irons, Ultra Fairway Woods, Haig Ultradyne Irons and Walter Hagen Haig Ultradyne 2 Irons. From time to time there happen to be special Ultra lady golf clubs sets on auction sites. Produced in the seventies, with real wooden heads, can you imagine how that is like to play with these lady Hagen golf clubs...
